Urban Ropeways
The Vishwa Samudra Group has embarked on a groundbreaking venture with the development, operation, and maintenance of India’s first Urban Ropeway Transportation Project in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh (INR 803 Cr /US$ 100 Mn). Being the world’s second and India’s first urban ropeway project, it spans across 3.85 kms and boasting a passenger capacity of 96,000 per day (3000 per hour per direction). This innovative project with Swiss technology from Bartholet and gondolas designed by the popular Porsche Design Studio in Germany, promises to revolutionize urban transportation in one of India’s oldest and most sacred cities.
A project under NHAI’s subsidiary NHLML, this is the first government project in the country to secure an international loan of EUR 40 Mn from Switzerland.
This pioneering project would have a massive impact on Varanasi’s future, promising to alleviate congestion, reduce travel times, and improve the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
